17th November 2017

We have had a couple of exciting events this week. Firstly, we had a visit from a tarmac lorry. They talked to us about safety when walking or cycling near a lorry and particularly about blind spots on lorries. We even got to have a look inside the truck and beep the horn.

Friday was Children In Need, we got to wear our pajamas for the day and raise money for a good cause.
Congratulations to Mia for winning the KS2 colouring competition.

10th November 2017

Firstly, apologies for the late blog.

Maths

We continued with multiplication and division this week and focused on the grid method for multiplication. The children have used this method before, but we moved on to using four digit by one or two digits. The children did excellently at this and showed good progress over the week.

 English

We have continued with dramatic conventions this week, looking particularly at different styles of news broadcasts. We have looked at phrases that are used in news broadcast and wrote our own news broadcast. After that, we compared different types of news reports, looking at Newsround, sports reports and the BBC World news.

Science

Continuing our topic of Earth and Space, we have looked at why we have day and night both in the UK and across the world. Then we looked at the different time zones across the world and solved problems using this information.

Computing

Having researched the average number of daylight hours in a month in the UK, we have produced line graphs, from this we are able to analyse the data.

Art

Our Tudor portrait gallery is now on display outside the classroom.

Writing

This week we have started booster writing to help us improve. We began by looking at Expanded Noun phrases and then watched an extract of a video showing the launch of a new book called Tom Trueheart. We then wrote a description of the forest that was shown on the video.

Thank you to everyone that came to parent's evening, it was lovely to meet to all.

3rd November 2017

Welcome back to the new term. We have all made a fantastic start.

This weeks blog has been written by Ella, Lucia and Annabel.

English:

In English we have been learning about dramatic conventions (techniques which are used in radio and TV dramas). We have begun by looking at the difference between a radio and a TV drama. We have listened to a Radio 4 comedy show called Just A Minute hosted by Nicolas Parson.  We have been writing our own scripts based on this show. We choose a topic and have to write a one minute script without using repetition, deviation and hesitation.

Maths:

In maths we have started a unit on multiplication and division. During this week we have looked at prime numbers, factor pairs, common factor, square numbers and cube numbers. What a busy week! To end the week we have been  multiplying by 10, 100, 1000 including multiplying decimals.

Science:

In science this week we have started learning about  Earth and Space. We had a debate about if the Earth was flat or spherical. We then went out to learn about the planets, the order, the size, who is was discovered by and other interesting facts.

Computing:

This half term we are learning how to make line graphs in excel, we will be researching data linked to Earth and Space and producing graphs.

Art:

Our Henry VIII portraits are now finished. Here are a selection of them. They are going to be displayed in our Tudor Portrait Gallery outside our classroom.

Reminder that it is parents evening on Thursday, I look forward to meeting you all then.
